Australia’s smallest and only island state, Tasmania is famed for its unique lifestyle and beautiful scenery and has been separated from the mainland of Australia for thousands of years by a strip of water called the Bass Strait. Considering its size Tasmania has a large array of attractions and even spending a month on the island wouldn’t get you around them all. Tasmania can be reached directly by flight, however by starting in Australia and taking the ferry across you’ll experience some spectacular views and while there are public transport links on the island, hiring a car is the most convenient way to travel. One of Tasmania’s best attractions is the Bay of Fires; a stunning destination made up of brilliant blue waters, fire red rocks and bordered by sandy white beaches and the area offers a plethora of activities from camping and boating, to swimming and surfing. The island is also home to the best preserved convict site in Australia, Port Arthur, which offers guided tours and the immense Cataract George Reserve. The reserve is a unique natural formation considered to be one of Australia’s most fascinating urban parks; the south side boasts a café, swimming pool and a beach, while the north side features a kiosk, a swimming pool, restaurants and a chairlift across the river.
