Rio Grande is the oldest city in the Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost state of Brazil that shares borders with Uruguay and Argentina. Rio Grande is the most important port city in the state, as well as having one of the most important maritime ports in Brazil. The history of Rio Grande is as old as the region itself and has always been considered one of the richest cities in Brazil due to its long history of strong industrial movements, its refinery and the fact it is the second busiest port in the country. The city boasts, what some would call, the longest beach in the world, known as the Praia do Cassino and spanning a massive 250km, the beach is also scattered with dunes, ranging from small to towering and borders the Atlantic. In addition to the long coastline, the city is made up of stunning architecture and historic buildings, and makes for a lovely holiday destination in which you can spend your time safely exploring on foot.
