The country of Grenada is made up of three islands, the island of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique and a cluster of tiny islands in the Caribbean or West Indies, Grenada lies just north east of Trinidad and Tobago and south west of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Often referred to as the “Spice Isle” Grenada is famed for its spices, in particular the country is a major source for nutmeg, cloves, ginger, cinnamon and cocoa. The island of Grenada is the largest of three and where you’ll find the majority of the nation’s population, while Carriacou is the second largest and boasts the town of Hillsborough and Petite Martinique is the smallest and has limited tourist facilities. There is a lot to see in Grenada and it’s all pretty inspirational, from rum distilleries, historical forts and spice estates (some of which are still in operational today) to lakes, waterfalls, spice gardens and floral gardens (most of which are award winning). A lovely and popular attraction of Grenada is the Belmont Estate, found in St Patrick on the island of Grenada, the estate is a unique and authentic 17th century cocoa plantation that offers guests the opportunity to participate in or view the workings of a fully functioning historic plantation.
