The Czech Republic is a small landlocked country in central Europe, south-east of Germany and bordered by Austria to the south, Poland to the north and Slovakia to the south-east. Although a small country, Czech has a rich, eventful history, with a plethora of historical sites to visit. The capital of Prague is the largest city in the country and has a large, beautiful historic centre; monuments of note to visit include the Astrological Clock, Charles Bridge and Prague Castle. The former capital Brno, has several excellent museums to visit, and is home to the second largest historical centre in the country, one of the biggest exhibition centres in Europe and the second largest Ossuary in Europe after the catacombs of Paris. North of Brno you’ll find the Mococha Caves, there is a guided tour available that will take you through the honeycomb of underground tunnels with an up close look at stalactites and stalagmites and the tour ends with a peaceful boat ride down the underground river. Another place of interest to visit is Ostrava, a vibrant cultural city with an interesting long history in coal mining and heavy industry. Although Czech isn’t home to rolling coastlines, there are plenty of designated, public swimming areas and a plethora of lake side beaches, although be aware as typical European naturism is rife by the lakes.
