Located in the south west of France, Bordeaux is most famously the world’s wine industry capital. Most recognised for the wine by the same name as the region, Bordeaux is a relaxed town with a tolerant attitude. An English flair can be sensed here however it is sometimes referred to as “Little Paris” due to the traditional stone masons and smart terraces found in the town centre. Bordeaux was built on the banks of the Garonne River; and the sights are best experienced in the Les Quais area, take a peaceful walk along the river’s edge, take a ferry ride or view the architectural wonder of the Aquatine Bridge. This area is also famed for its night clubs and dance venues, dance the night away on the shore or party on from a riverboat. The town has a wonderful selection of restaurants, among the streets or set against the banks of the river, all offering up beautifully prepared French cuisine, including Foie Gras, river fish and wild boar. For shopping in the area, The Pedestrian Centre is a rewarding starting point, featuring shops full of goods from clothes to art, craftworks, food and wine and more. For luxury shopping head to Gambetta square and its surroundings and for Paris related fashion, make sure to visit Rue Sainte Catherine, the longest pedestrian district in Europe.
