Recently voted one of the top ten cities to visit, Valencia is a fairly undiscovered city packed wall to wall with activities and excursions. Excellent travel links make Valencia easily reachable from outside, although there is plenty in favour of staying the city.
Just outside the train station (which in itself is aesthetically pleasing) you will see the infamous bull ring, although bull fighting is not as popular in modern day Spain, it is stunning and worth a tour. From here explore cobblestoned streets and discover vastly Moorish architecture, stop in a traditional tapas bar, or sample some of the famous paella, Valencia is often referred to the birthplace of this typical Spanish dish.
The city often flaunts its title of “New Barcelona” and the shopping available certainly backs this up, boasting high streets designer tags to the bizarre and souvenir based boutiques, not to mention one of the biggest food markets in Europe, located in the modernist Mercado Central. The long winding riverbed of the diverted Turina River is one of the most prominent features, now home to popular rugby and football pitches, scenic nature trails, fountains and a boating lake, stroll along this wonderful setting until you come to the must see City of Arts and Sciences. Here you will find a Science Museum, a Planetarium, an IMAX cinema, an Aquarium and, in the near future, the Arts Museum. It is famous for its interesting architecture by Santiago Calatrava.
