A state on India’s west coast, Goa is a former Portuguese colony with an impressive rich history. Since the 1960’s, travellers have been coming to Goa to see the unique mix of Indian and Portuguese cultures and architecture, that has slowly evolved from the initial Hindu and Christian settlers to a hugely diverse population. The state is very welcoming, the people are mostly easy going and while working in towns, they live mainly in villages; the villages tend to be neat, clean and very friendly and visiting the villages gives travellers a first-hand experience of the heart of Goa. For beach lovers, Goa is an ideal holiday destination, with miles of coastline and a plethora of lovely beaches to choose from, most backed by good facilities and all extremely scenic, even if you take a day trip out to explore, it is definitely recommended. For culture lovers, Goa has more than its fair share of museums, art galleries and libraries; in particular Old Goa is a fantastic place to see examples of Christian religious art and occasionally secular art. There is even a vintage car collection to be seen at Ashvek Vintage World in Salcette. Further attractions in Goa include; visiting the discos and bars, diving amongst the abundant marine life or exploring several shipwrecks, kite surfing, paragliding, jet skis, banana-boat rides and visiting the beautiful Butterfly Conservatory of Goa.
